Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc is a white wine from New Zealand.
The winemaker is Anthony Walkenhorst. He joined the brand in 2005, working closely with the founder, Kim Crawford.
Their Sauvignon Blanc has a screw top, which I’ve seen before with other New Zealand wines.
Additionally, this wine has won several gold medals starting with their 2009 vintage.
For this review, two friends and I tasted the Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2014 vintage.
According to Kim Crawford Wines, the grapes for this wine were selected from the Wairau Valley and the Awatere Valley. They also say that “The vines ranged in age, up to 14 years, bringing a mix of youthful vigor and depth of flavor.”

In the glass this wine presents pale golden straw in color. Legs were not apparent at first, but then developed into thick and fast moving tears.
The wine’s aroma was fruity with notes of several different fruits, including green apple, Asian pear and a hint of pineapple. There was just the slightest whiff of alcohol in the aroma.
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc alcohol content 12.5% by volume, per the bottle.
We expected the taste to be sweet, given the aroma. However, the flavor was not as sweet as the aroma would suggest.
We noted “citrus on the forefront” and all agreed that sweet lemon was the predominant flavor.
The wine’s finish was quite long lasting and enjoyable. We also noticed a bit of a sour lemon pucker in our mouths which we all liked.
Overall, all three of us liked this wine a lot. It’s smooth, refreshing and crisp all at the same time.
We felt it would make a great summer “cocktail party sipper.” One of the tasters also thought this would be great in a White Sangria.
For a pairing, we suggest shrimp cocktail given the great acidity of the wine and its potential to cut through and complement that appetizer. Kim Crawford Wines suggest pairing with fresh oysters, asparagus, lobster, or summer salads.

The first glass is awesome. However, after one glass, the wine seems to lose it’s initial burst of smell and flavour, ends up tasting like the sweet lemon mentioned in the review. Why is that? In other words, the second glass does not taste like the first one.

Our experience was in line with the reviewer’s. Great product.
For Paula I would suggest a nice bottle of Vimto or cold glass of Ribena
