Stella Rosa Black Review

Stella Rosa Black

Stella Rosa Black comes from Stella Rosa Wines, with grapes from the Piedmont region of Northern Italy.

Billed as a low-alcohol grape wine specialty with natural flavors, this semi-sparkling wine comes with a twist-top and a calorie label on the back.

And if you’re interested in knowing, a 5oz. pour contains 110 calories!

Its ingredients included:  wine, water, grape must, and natural flavors, among other things like grape skin extract for color.

Also noticeable, the ingredients say “no added juice.”

I took this to mean that the natural flavors of blackberry, blueberry, and raspberry (as claimed by Stella Rosa) in this wine, don’t come from adding in those juices.

The back label does say “combined with natural flavors” of those fruits, so they must introduce them to the winemaking process somehow.

Stella Rosa Black Wine Review

From the bottle:

Stella Rosa Black is seductive, rich and full-bodied with a hint of sweetness.  Serve chilled with fresh fruit, cheese, spicy cuisine, and desserts.

Per the instructions, I chilled this non-vintage, semi-sweet, semi-sparkling red blend wine before tasting it.

Appearance

In the glass, this wine purple in color.

As it is a semi-sparkling wine, you’ll see plenty of bubbles after pouring.

However, they don’t continue to rise in the glass like a Champagne would.  It’s more like a fizz on top that slowly dissipates.

Aroma

There’s definitely a substantial aroma of juicy black berries and concord grape.

And absolutely no aroma of alcohol on the nose.

Stella Rosa Black alcohol content 5.0% by volume, per the bottle.

Yep!  Only 5%.  Kind of like what you’d find in a light beer.

Taste

The wine’s taste was kind of like a thirst-quenching grape soda with the flavors of blueberry and raspberry mixed in.

However, it had substantially less carbonation than a soda would.

Still, quite crisp though.

Mouthfeel and Tannins

There were no noticeable tannins and the mouthfeel could best be described as fizzy.

The concept of “mouthfeel and tannins” probably doesn’t apply to a beverage like this.

Finish

The flavor does linger in your mouth for awhile.  It’s more fruity than wine-like.

Overall Opinion of Stella Rosa Black

Overall, Stella Rosa Black is quite tasty.

It’s like drinking a grape soda.  And, since the alcohol level is so low, you don’t feel guilty for drinking it like a soda.

It’s definitely nothing like drinking a regular still red blend wine.

And even though it’s carbonated, it’s nothing like a true sparkling wine or even a bubbly Prosecco.

It reminds me of Riunite, but much better tasting.

Stella Rosa Black price $11.99 and I picked it up at my local wine store.

Suggested Food Pairing

Aside from the pairing listed on the bottle label (see above), Stella also suggests pairing Stella Rosa Black with Fresh Havarti and Manchego cheeses, blue cheese-stuffed hamburgers, bratwurst bathed in beer, dark chocolate soufflé, and black walnut ice cream.

Wow!  Given all the pairings they suggest, I’m wondering what you shouldn’t pair this with…  Any ideas?

  1. Okay I’ve tried a lot of different wines and didn’t like any of them. Then I came across the name (Stella Rosa). Now there are different types so I tried the ones below:

Stella Rosa Black, Stella Rosa (Stella Rosso) and Stella Rosa Black Cherry.

Now for me, I selected the Stella Rosa Black because the taste goes well with steak, chicken, pork chops, turkey and duck. And I mean it has excellent taste. You will like this all the way to the last drop. And it leaves no after taste. It improves whatever you are eating and really, it’s such a joy.

  2. Stella Rose Black…Very tasty, but if you are looking to get a buzz off this wine…it will not happen, unless you drink the entire bottle, you might get a slight buzz depending on your body mass.

  3. I live in Texas and Stella Rosa
price has been increased to 17.99 for the 750ml bottle! Has the price in California gone up
    also?

    1. It has especially in grocery stores but you can get it around 11.00 a bottle in target and some liquor barns like total wine. Occasionally they’ll be on sale at other stores

    2. No price increase. In fact it has dropped a bit here to just $7.99 usd at my local grocery market. It also pairs nice with my fire kist grilled bone in ribeyes. The flavor of the wine cuts thru the fatty taste of the butter basted steaks. It’s a nice wine with fruity taste to me. I prefer the sweeter wines since I almost never drink wine. I don’t like most wines but love this wine.

  4. Glad I found a site to help with the ever-increasing morass of wines and wineries. With so many on the market now, it becomes confusing and, frankly, many do not live up to their claims or the old gauge of “price-indicative” quality. I realize taste “is in the mouth of the drinker” so it is my hope your information will be an unbiased presentation of actual information. Again, I realize your opinion of taste may be subjective, which is fine, especially coming from experience, not a whim. I look forward to your information to determine which might be what we are looking for.
