Mirassou Pinot Noir Wine Review

From Modesto, California, Mirassou Pinot Noir is a popular wine that you can find in many stores and restaurants.

The Mirassou brand has been owned by Gallo since 2003.  However, David Mirassou was kind enough to contact me via Twitter.  In his message he said “I am still involved in every part of the Mirassou wines. Glad you like them;) Cheers!”

Now that’s a nice guy!

Grapes for this wine come from Montery and Sonoma county.  The winemaker goes to great lengths to protect the fruit by only harvesting during the cooler hours of the day.

According to their website, “the grapes were destemmed and cold soaked for 24 hours prior to a five-day fermentation in upright, rotary fermenters at a maximum temperature of 85˚F.”

Mirassou Pinot Noir alcohol content 13.5% by volume per the bottle.

Mirassou Pinot Noir Review

Mirassou Pinot NoirIn the glass the wine appears garnet in color.  Fairly dark for a Pinot Noir, however light does shine through.  Leggy on the sides of the glass.  The drips moved slowly, hinting at a heavier Pinot Noir.

On the nose, Mirassou Pinot Noir gives forth aromas of earthiness.  Also noted was a slight whiff of alcohol alongside a pleasant ripe rasberry aroma.

On the palate, this wine delivers delicious fruits of raspberry and plum.  The slightest bit of dryness accompanies a dark flavor of cherry, vanilla and oak.

Mirassou Pinot Noir presents as a very smooth drinking wine with a mouthfeel of silk.  Quite enjoyable.

The finish is short and round with subtle tannins noted on the tongue.  Also noticed on the cheeks but not nearly as much.

Overall, this is very easy drinking California Pinot Noir that will likely appeal to many.  Mirassou Pinot Noir would be very approachable for someone with a developing interest in red wine.

According to the bottle, this wine would pair well with “grilled poultry, light pasta dishes, Swiss and Gruyere cheeses.”  I would agree.

Highly recommend!  Especially if you like a fruitier red.

Mirassou Pinot Noir price $7.99.

  1. How does one find out about the sugar contents in red wine. I had a glass of Mirassou California Pinot Noir & found it to be good. I am also a diabetic & am concerned over the sugar contents. Waitress brought me this wine & said it was zero sugar.?

    1. I would go to the website of the winery or brand to find that information. Some have detailed Tasting Notes that you can look at too, though many don’t.

They may also have a contact form on their site, where you can ask them directly.

  2. Mirassou Pinot Noir bring back wonderful memories. In the late 1970’s I would come from our Columbus Ohio regional office to Logical Business Machine’s corporate HQ in Sunnyvale (a funky, mini-computer company that used English commands to create programs). I visited the Mirassou winery and fell in love with their pinot noir….a wonderful wine with a great oak accent. Even then (over 40 years ago) the old winery was surrounded by housing. No doubt the wine is different now but my memories are still strong!

    1. Thanks for the comment and for sharing your memories, Bill!

Their Pinot Noir is certainly lovely and an easy sipper.

Always nice when a wine brings back positive memories, too.

      Cheers!
      Jon

  3. Omg I love this wine
I recently started drinking wine and my first wine is mirassou pinot noir
    What a wonderful wine

  4. Mirasou Pinot Poir is my favorite wine and it pairs well with meats and pasta dishes. When I am out at a fancy restaurant I’m always looking for Mirasou on the wine list not because I’m cheap but just because I love the wine. And for the price you cannot go wrong as we always pickup 3 bottles about once a month. Great wine!

  5. Pleasantly surprised went for bottle of my usual wine ménage pinot noir but store was out grabbed Mirassou little worried I may not like it being such a bargain price 7.99 – wow very nice wine smooth wonderful balanced blend I will buy it again Thank You

  6. I’ve had this wine in my collection for awhile, I almost forgot I had it. I finally broke it out today and I was very pleased. That’s how I found this article. I wanted to know if I was being overly kind about this wine, but the consensus seems to be that it is good. I am looking forward to trying it again.

  7. I drink only Pinot Noir, daily! Not the top shelf stuff, as I cannot afford it. This wine is among the best in its price range, period. Perfect balance, flavors, alcohol content and very nice mouthfeel. And the price, wow! I drank Mark West PN for many years, but switched over to Mira. Better.

    1. I agree, Mirassou is by far my favorite pinot noir in this price range. I was a big Mark West fan, but I like Mirassou even more. The 2017 Beringer pinot noir is also a fantastic wine.

  8. Mirassou pinot noir is our favorite red wine.
We always take the.allowed amount when we cruise and order it at dinner when appropriate..
We have tried other pinot noirs but always go back to our favorite, Mirassou.

  9. I found the alcohol to be too high and ended up masking any pleasurable aromas or tastes that came with the wine. 10/10 would not recommend
