Lindemans Chardonnay Review

I tasted the 2015 vintage of this wine, noted as “Bin 65 Chardonnay.”

It was bottled in June 2015 and aged in French oak.  Grapes for this wine were harvested from January to March of 2015.

Sample received for review purposes.

Appearance

In the glass, Lindemans Chardonnay is light straw in color.

I noted quite a few tiny bubbles suspended on the glass immediately after pouring.

Often times, bubbles like these will go away after a few swirls in the glass.  These bubbles, however, managed to hang tough!

The wine was very leggy, hinting at a bold and mouth coating Chardonnay.

Aroma

I was immediately greeted with a strong but enjoyable aroma upon pouring.

The aroma would best be described as sweet citrus.  If you could create an aroma from lemon and sugar, that would be how I would describe it.

After a few spins of the glass, the aroma settled and was less pungent.

A notable “sting in the nose” was evident, most likely from the alcohol in the wine.

Lindemans Chardonnay alcohol content 13.5% by volume per the bottle.

Taste

The wine’s taste was a subtle continuation of the aroma.

I tasted lightly sweet fruits and mild citrus with a little bit of acidity.  The sweet flavor was a little like peach.

What pleased me most, was no notable bitterness on the palate.

Finish

Lindemans Chardonnay is a medium to long finishing wine.

The finish was carried by the flavors and no significant tannins were noted.

Overall Opinion

In total, I think this is good, simple Chardonnay that will appeal to many.

It’s not going to knock your socks off with complexity, but if you want a sweet summer sipper for a cheap price, it’s worth giving it a try.

Lindemans Chardonnay price $5.99.

Suggested Food Pairing

The wine’s tasting notes suggest pairing this wine with seafood dishes.

I would agree and would suggest pairing Lindemans Chardonnay with lobster bisque.  I think matching sweet for sweet would work and the light citric acidity would cut through the heavier bisque.

Have you tried this wine…  What did you think?

  1. This is my go-to, my vin ordinaire. Living as I do in a tropical climate, I appreciate the light grapefruity finish – it’s a real thirst quencher ( always chilled ), much more so than a buttery chardonnay would be. And as noted above, it pairs very nicely with seafood, pork, chicken, anything short of robust red meats or red sauce Italian entrees. I also have found that when I travel, I can find it practically anywhere. It suits all my needs.

    1. Thank you for your thoughtful comment and review, Bob!

This wine is kind of like the swiss army knife of easy to find and inexpensive wines.

It does many things well and like you said, it suits many needs.

      Cheers!

  2. I find this wine to be bordering on unpleasant in acidity, with the aroma of esterols produced by yeast.
It’s possible that I have a bottle produced after COVID-19 induced inflation has affected the quality of lower end products.

Even a double vodka, on the rocks, doesn’t dull the flavor & aroma profiles that I initially observed.

While others may enjoy this wine, it’s quite clear that this isn’t a wine that meets my personal preferences.

    1. Thanks for sharing your opinion Kaiser. Appreciate the details, too! Sounds like a pretty unpleasant exerience.

Hope your next wine selection treats you better!

      Cheers!

      1. I decided to introduce some mother of vinegar to the remainder of this bottle & cover the top with a few layers of cheesecloth.

Based on past experience… having made some fruit and berry wines which turned out quite unpalatable and salvaging my efforts by making vinegar…
I’m quite certain this bottle of wine will make a delectable vinegarette.

  3. this wine makes me salivate, it is sunshine in a bottle with airy hints of citrus and happiness. lindemans never disappoints. great wine for the price! I agree with the auroma, and can only add that it pairs very well with reheated chili’s Santa Fe Burger!

    1. Thanks for commenting, Autumn!

I’ve had some Lindemans wine I didn’t like, so good to hear they’re hitting the mark on this one.

And happy to hear you’ve found something you really like… That’s always a good thing!

      Cheers!

  4. Ahh it’s oaky and Smokey.
I detect bacon fat. Laced with honey melon.
Ahh and a fine smooth finish.

  5. Great review, really I love your style.

Chardonnay is my favorite varietal, I typically go for an oaky finish and was sort of hoping this may lend itself to a new find but it may not be in my taste.

I am however glad I stumbled on your tweet because the layout of your review and descriptions were very enjoyable.

Imagine my surprise when that much complexity evolved into a six dollar bottle.

Well done! I look forward to reading more.

  6. I have NEVER been disappointed in a Lindemans wine; price is appropriate to palate and there are no “dogs,” I remember enjoying the Bin 65 Chardonnay at least five years ago and I’d agree with your tasting notes, so they have been able to keep the character and quality consistent. Really, most of us want to know there is a wine we can count on to serve year after year, so hurrah.
