In the glass, this wine appeared a tiny bit dark and exhibited a coppery garnet color. Light easily penetrated this wine. Legs were noticeable and finger-like.
The aroma of this Barolo was of black licorice and the often talked about scent of tar and rose petals. Definitely an enjoyable nose that also included a good whiff of alcohol.
On the palate, the wine gave forth light earthy flavors of black coffee and gourmet level dark chocolate. This Barolo is a dry wine with a puckery mouthfeel.
The finish was long. Ripe tannins were noticed on the tip of the tongue and mid cheeks. Sweet acidity was present.
Overall, this is a very enjoyable and good quality dry red Italian wine. As the wine had a chance to breath it softened up quite a bit, further adding to the drinkability. It definitely has a foundation that will allow it to age gracefully. If you buy this wine, buy at least two bottles. One to drink now with a pot roast or a nice dish of pasta with a heavy meat sauce. And, one (or more) to store away for several years. Very nice… Recommend!
