Robert Mondavi Private Selection Cabernet
For this review we tasted the Robert Mondavi Private Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 from the Central Coast region of California.
This Cabernet Sauvignon is actually a blend. It’s made from 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Syrah, 3% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, 1% Malbec and 1% Cabernet Franc.
Robert Mondavi Private Selection Cabernet alcohol content 13.5% by volume, per the bottle.
According to the winemaker their grapes from the Central Coast vineyards benefit from soils that are volcanic and consistent.
Additionally, distance from the coast results in a helpful cooling fog.
The 2010 growing season was said to be one of the coolest on record.
All together this makes for “the perfect blend of rich fruit and bright acid” per Mondavi.
If you’re interested, I’ve also reviewed two other Robert Mondavi selections. Here they are:

Robert Mondavi Private Selection Cabernet Sauvignon Review
The cork was soft and came out clean, with a bit of a splatter. No wine ring at all on the inside end.
In the glass, the wine was a deep plum. It appeared robust and very leggy.
The wine’s aroma was good, strong and lingering. Hints of earthy, oaky berries were noted.
We let the wine breathe for 5 to 10 minutes before tasting.
When we tasted the wine, we noted blackberries and mellow spice. The oak was from the aroma carried through to the taste.
The wine’s tannins were forward and sparkling.
Robert Mondavi Private Selection Cabernet is a little dry with a cottony mouthfeel.
We determined that the finish was short to medium.
Overall, we felt Robert Mondavi Private Selection Cabernet Sauvignon is a very enjoyable wine. Its strengths lie in the aroma and the taste.
As most wines from the Robert Mondavi winery turn out to be good, we weren’t surprised that we enjoyed this one as well.
Pair this with a good rib eye, roast duck or a steak on the grill and you can’t go wrong!
Robert Mondavi Private Selection Cabernet Sauvignon price about $11.00.
What is the life span of a 2014 bottle of Robert Mondavi private selection?
Hi John, thanks for commenting!
It’s hard to say how long that bottle will be good. Depends on how it was cellared, temperatures, condition of the cork and more.
Nowadays, most mass produced wines are made to be opened and consumed soon after purchase.
Given that, I would open it now and see what you get.
Cheers!

Used to buy this when in British Columbia, found it a couple of times in Tesco back in the UK. A very enjoyable drink!
This review is a pleasant surprise for me. For some reason, I tend to think of Mondavi wines as being more toward the “BOX WINE” end of the spectrum, but now I’m thinking I’m going to have to try some of their Private Selection Cab and just maybe I’ll have my mind changed, huh?
Glad you enjoyed my review, Don, and hopefully it lines up with what you find.
Cheers!
Jon
I tried a Robert Mondavi last year around this time (Chardonnay 2010). I was surprised with it’s crisp apple taste. It had a medium finish and complimented my sea food supper splendidly. Thank you for this review!
